MISSION:
The Air Force Academy’s mission is to train students to become
officers for the following specialities: pilots, navigators, meteorologists,
air defense artillery and missiles, radar.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
The Air Force Academy was established based on the Government Decision,
and given the name of “Henri Coanda”, in the honor of the
great scientist who invented the jet plane.
The Air Force Academy “Henri Coanda” continues the activity
of the Aviation Military Institute “Aurel Vlaicu”, the Radiolocation
Military Institute and the Anti-Aircraft Artillery and Missiles Military
Institute “General Bungescu”, whose traditions were based
on the following historical moments:
- First Aviation Military School, one of the first five institutions
of this kind in the world, set up on 1 April 1912 in Cotroceni, under
the leadership of Maj. Ion Macri;
- First military school for anti-aircraft artillery offiers - established
shortly after World War II had begun, respectively on 10th December
1939, in Bucharest;
- First radar officers school - established on 1 December 1952, in Sibiu.
ADMISSION:
Young people (men and women) having a High-School diploma can apply
for the entry examination at the Military Academy, after Regional Recruitment
Centers and the National Institute for Aeronautical and Space Medicine
selected and declared them eligible based on physical, psychological
and medical examination. The entry examination held by the Academy consists
of three written tests:
- Mathematics
- Social sciences
- English language.
LOGISTICS:
The logistics, intended for the students training, comprises classrooms,
multifunctional halls, laboratories for various purposes, lecture rooms,
libraries, a complex sports ground, shooting ranges, training fields,
etc.
THE ACADEMIC MANAGEMENT:
The Commandant of the Academy, who is also the Rector of this institution,
is in harge with the academic management. He is supported by a managerial
team, made up of the Commandant’s deputies: Deputy Chief, Prorector,
Chief of Staff, Chief of Logistics, Chief Physician, Chaplain and Chief
of the PR Department.
The Collective Body which elaborates and makes decisions concerning
educational activities in the Academy is the Senate, which permanently
analyses the carrying out of the teaching activity and makes suggestions
to the Rector regarding its improvement.
PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES:
During an academic year the students are tested and assessed regarding
their general and professional knowledge.
The students carry out practical activities such as:
- pilot students fly YAK-52, a propeller engine plane and the L-39 jet
plane;
- practical activities in designated military bases for the students
specialized in meteorology, artillery and antiaircraft missiles, and
radar.
- firing activities in the Capu Midia Firing Range, for the students
specialized in artillery and surface-to-air missiles.
