Air Flotilla General Victor Strimbeanu, Ph.D.
Commander of Air Operational Component

Air Flotilla General Victor Strimbeanu was born on 2nd April 1960 in Saveni, Ialomita County. After graduating the high school in Bucharest with a specialization in aeronautics, in 1980, he started his military career by successful passing the exams of the Air Force Military School “Aurel Vlaicu” in Boboc which he graduated as lieutenant in 1984. His training as fighter pilot determined his assignment at 86th Fighter Regiment, an Air Force Base where he served, except for short periods of time, almost his entire military career as pilot, instructor, and commander.
From 1992 to 1994 General Strimbeanu attended the Academy of High Military Studies and then returned to the same unit that meanwhile had become 86th Fighter Group. He was assigned first Chief of Reconnaissance and Electronic Warfare Section and after that he moved to Bucharest at the Air Force Headquarters where he was appointed flight safety inspector.
During his career, General Victor Strimbeanu attended various courses, at home and abroad, all of them designated to improve his professional profile and to cover the whole range of flight-related activities: operations, flight safety, reconnaissance, electronic warfare, etc. Starting from 1996 to 2006 he participated as project officer and pilot in different national and international exercises.
From September 2006 to September 2008 he was assigned Deputy-Director at PCC SHAPE and then until July 2009 Deputy-Chief Military Cooperation Division, SHAPE, Mons/Belgium.
He became a Doctor in Military Science at National Defense University in Bucharest with his dissertation on “Air Power in relation to National and Global Security”.

Air Flotilla General Victor Strimbeanu is married and has two children.
