Colonel Dan Cavaleru was born on 3rd August 1961 in Bacau. After graduating Military High School in Campulung Moldovenesc, in 1980, he attended Military Officer School – Antiaircraft Artillery and Missile specialty which he finished in 1983. The officer started his career in 17th Antiaircraft Missile Regiment where he performed duties such as platoon commanding and fire control officer. In 1989 he was accepted to University of National Defense. Following his graduation in 1991 he started his activity in Antiaircraft Artillery and Missile Training School as a lecturer, commander of a surface-to-air missile battalion, or head of antiaircraft firing department up to 2001 when he was appointed officer in chief of combat readiness within Operations Division – General Staff.

  • In 2007 Colonel Cavaleru was appointed person in charge with operational requirements and in 2008 – with combat readiness branch, both subdivisions of Operations Division in the General Staff.
  • In February 2009 Colonel Cavaleru was deputized for the commander of the 1st Surface-to-Air Missile Brigade “General Nicolae Dascalescu”.
  • During his career he attended two postgraduate leadership courses, one of them abroad. As far as his basic specialty is concerned, from 1996 to 2001 he acted as an arbiter in tactical combat firings Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) troops annually exercised in Capu Midia Firing Range. Colonel also participated as member of organizing cells in international activities within theaters of operations and NATO Commands, particularly in readiness training and crisis management operations. He co-authored several instructions, handbooks and other operation-, and SAM-related executive orders.
  • Colonel Cavaleru is married and has a child.

    • 1991-1993 lecturer, Tactics Department, Antiaircraft Artillery and Missile Training School;
    • 1996-2001 head of antiaircraft firing department, Antiaircraft Artillery and Missile Training School;
    • 2001-2005 officer, Operations Division – General Staff;
    • 2005-2006 mission in theaters of operations;
    • 2007-2008 officer in chief, Operational Requirements Office, Operations Division – General Staff;
    • 2008-2009 officer in chief, Combat Readiness Department, Operations Division – General Staff;
    • 2009 deputy commander, 1st SAM Brigade “General Nicolae Dascalescu”;

    AWARDS, ORDERS AND MEDALS:

    • Ministry of National Defense and General Staff Emblem of Honor;
    • Honorary Insignia “In Service to the Armed Forces” in rank of a knight for 15, 20 and 25-years of military service.

    Language proficiency:

    • French and English – advanced level.
